User Interviews
I conducted interviews through zoom or phone to understand the challenges faced with paying bills, what type of people might be impacted the most by bills, and what are the needs of people when paying bills and expenses.
The people that I interviewed are between the ages of 20-60 with various occupations, gender and marital status. I chose this age group because they are most likely old enough to deal with bills and also use smartphones consistently.
Key Insights from Interviews
Most people do not track their bills or their expenses. When asked for the reason, they responded by finding it too tedious to track their expenses.
Most people do not know when they need to pay their bills. They only know when they receive a letter or notification from the biller.
Most people find it helpful to have all their bills in one place and helpful to know how much they spend on bills. However, they do not find it necessary.
Most millennials (age 21 - 39) are incentivized to use their payment methods because they have cash back to help them save money.
User Persona
After interviewing, I was able to narrow down the type of users for my app. The first type are young adults who are in the early stages of their careers and are trying to improve their savings. The second type are recently wedded couples who recently bought a home and are dealing with many bills.

Competitor Analysis
I studied three competitors who provide bill payment and management services to get inspiration and ideas on how to design my app.

Out of the three competitors, AXS m-Station is the only direct competitor as the other apps are not available in Singapore.

Task Flow
I identified and created a task flow for the key features to come up with sketches for the app. The task flow consists of the steps of each of the key features.

Color and Style Guide
I chose blue because it represents trust, which is very important when dealing with money. Many banks and financial institutions use blue to convey that meaning.

I chose a sans serif text to give it a modern feeling. Also, most technology companies use san serif for that purpose.

The app logo resembles a receipt in an S shape. The S shape stands for simple and SimplyBills. The design of the logo is kept very minimalistic to reflect the simplicity of dealing with bills.

Home/Bills
The home page displays all of the users upcoming bills and subscriptions. Users can also view their bill history and bill details through the home page.

Add Payment Method
Users can add multiple credit and debit cards to pay their bills. Users have the flexibility to select different cards to pay different bills.

Add Biller
The add biller page is organized into different categories to make it easy for the user to find their biller. Many of the billers that are supported are popular subscription services and companies in Singapore.

Spending
SimplyBill categorizes your expenses to help you find out which areas are you spending your money.
Users have to options to switch between monthly and yearly spending, which is useful for monthly or yearly bill payments.

Rewards
SimplyBill has partnered with many companies in Singapore to offer many attractive rewards to help users save money. This encourages the users to continue using the app to accumulate points and redeem vouchers.

Settings
SimplyBill allows users to enable notifications to remind users about upcoming bills so users will not be surprised with unknown payments and helps remind users if they need to cancel their bills.
The four official languages of Singapore is supported which makes our app very inclusive to most people living in Singapore.

Reflection
Throughout this project, I learned that talking to users is very important instead of making assumptions. Due to the interview process, I added the spending and rewards feature after realizing that the interviewees do not track their expenses and only respond to incentives to use a payment application. In addition, I learned a lot more about Figma components and tools, giving me more confidence in designing applications in Figma.
